roommate

Well I have been living on campus for the last 3 years and each year I have a different roommate. I am the type of person who likes to be very diverse, so that is why I thought coming to the U of M would be good for me. Since I have arrived here my friends have not been that much diverse at all. I find this to be very depressing. Well out of 4 roommates only one is white. Having a roommate of another ethnic background was something I always wanted and finally this spring semester I got one. At first I was very excited to have this happened, but soon I become very disappointed with that arrangement. Now she is a very weird girl, but everyone is in the own way, but that wasn’t the problem in why I was disappointed.  Now I do not smoke or have a problem with people who smoke, but I kind of want to draw the straw when it comes to the smell being in my room. I have asthma so the smell irritates me a lot. My RA and I came up with the idea that maybe once she comes in and washes her clothes the smell won’t be that bad and with my air freshener it will go away.
The first week she was right it was not that bad, but then the smell got extremely strong over the air freshener and made the room smell horrible. To made things worse, she a very dirty person. She literally throws all trash on the floor and on the vent and that a lot makes the room smell bad. She is not a bad person I wish she would just Lysol her clothes and throw away her trash. People use to walk in my room and love the smell, but now I do not even want to be in my room. I just hang out in my best friend room all the time and I know she think I have abandon her, but I do not want to be mean and tell her that.

  1. I understand, I hate to be around the smoke smell as well. I also understand how you feel about not wanting to be mean to her, but think of it this way, it will be constructive criticism and maybe she won't take offense to it. Just try to think of a nice way to tell her.
